Blankie business...

Yep, Alyssa is a blankie baby. She usually only uses her blanket to go to sleep, but considering she can and does fall asleep anytime, anywhere, her blanket was becoming more brown than pink. It needed washing sorely. I wait as long as I can before washing her blanket because it is such a trial. First I have to sneak it away from her and then hide it in the laundry basket and then distract her while I put it in the washing machine.

Well, this time she saw it before I got it in the washer and was so mad that I had taken it away. I had to wrestle it away from her and then let her cry for a really long time, just to get it washed. She had to take a nap with a different blanket and that was just unacceptable.

Later on it had gone through the whole wash/dry cycle and it was time to get it out. Alyssa was so delighted that she "found" her "night, night." She grabbed it out of the dryer and hugged it so tight. She kissed her blanket and then immediately went upstairs to lay on the couch, with her blanket.

Normally she only has her blanket when it is time for bed, but she was so excited about being reconnected to this particular "night, night" that I let her carry it around for a little while longer. Ever since (that was 2 -3 days ago) she has been very protective of her blanket. She holds it tight and doesn't give it up too easily.

There is nothing like a newly washed blanket. Not only does it smell better but it is softer and more plush. Nothing could be more perfect for my perfect princess.

Great story Charis. Each of our kids had some kind of 'sleep prop' (to use the term we heard in a parenting book). Most stuff we read warned against reliance on sleep props. Most of that advice was a bunch of crap. We're glad we allowed our kids to enjoy their special sleep toy or blankie or whatever.

Great pictures, too!
