That's What Friends (neighbors) Are For...

"Keep smiling, keep shining

Knowing you can always count on me, for sure

That's what friends are for

For good times and bad times

I'll be on your side forever more

That's what friends are for"

These song lyrics are what come to mind when I think of how friends and neighbors have reached out to us since we got the difficult news that our son will need surgery. When your child is in crisis and needs to be hospitalized for any reason, it can feel devastating and debilitating. It is so important  for us to have a great community surrounding us. We celebrate, we mourn, we love, and we cry together. Life is more beautiful when we share it with the people that we see everyday.

Many families in our world are hurting and most are hurting in ways that we can not see. Many parents have to face putting their child in the hands of doctors, without any support around them. That is why I am so thankful for places like the Ronald McDonald House. We have gotten the opportunity to stay there several times while facing hard decisions. It is a place that cares and understands what families are going through. Please contact your local charities like Ronald McDonald House Charity that are supporting families in need and ask how you can be more involved. RMH allows people and organizations to come in and cook meals for the families that are housed there. This was such a huge help to us while we were there. Simple things like that can make a huge difference.

There is another song I think of often when I am feeling like I don't know how I will make it through. It is an older song by Rich Mullins...

Well, sometimes my life
Just don't make sense at all
When the mountains look so big
And my faith just seems so small
CHORUS:
So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It's so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart
CHORUS
Surrender don't come natural to me
I'd rather fight You for something
I don't really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I've beat my head against so many walls
Now I'm falling down, I'm falling on my knees
And this Salvation Army band
Is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep
It makes my resistance seem so thin
CHORUS
You have been King of my glory

Won't You be my Prince of Peace
