Yesterday was the first Parent/Teacher conferences for this school year. I am very proud of the reports that came back to us on both of our sons. We will start with Josiah, 'cause we saw his teacher first.
Mrs. Cunningham said that she loves having Josiah in her classroom! He has made a couple of good friends, Tony and Zane. She said that Josiah works really hard in class. He is improving his coloring, scissor skills, and drawing self portraits. He is right where he should be in knowing his letters and numbers. He is very good at listening in class. His teacher and his Mom and Dad are very proud of how well he is doing in Kindergarten this year!
Now for Karston...
Karston's teacher is also very proud of how well he is doing. Ms. Wallin told us that she was surprised at how well Karston is reading. She showed us a chart that will follow him every year for each of his teachers to chart his progress. When Karston entered first grade, he was right where he should have been for his reading level. By the end of first grade he had gone above and beyond the average first grader. When Ms. Wallin observed him at the start of second grade she was amazed. She told us that his reading level is at a fourth grade level right now. WOW! He is having a little trouble staying focused and reversing his numbers and letters. She said that we would keep watching and if that keeps up we may look into testing for dyslexia, but for right now not to worry. He is good at math, but his timed test are not showing how well he can do. I think he is like me, not so good under pressure. She did say several times that Karston is a very smart boy. She pushes him a little more than most because she wants him to notice just how smart he really is. Overall, she is very glad to have Karston in her class. He is doing very well in second grade. I am very proud of both of my boys!
