I have now been in Florida for two full days and I got the chance to stay with my dad overnight last night. His medications make him very sleepy so I mostly allowed him to rest.
He is scheduled for surgery on Monday morning at 7:30am. He will be having his left kidney removed in order to illiminate the fluid leaking into his stomach and the infection caused from the leaking. After the surgery he will no longer need many of the tubes that are now coming from his abdomial area. This will be a huge relief for him.
He has been eating, although the meds make everything taste differently so he is not eating very much. He does drink Ensure and that gives him any nutrients he may be missing from not eating.
Someone from the family is with him at all times. This not only helps his mental status, but also helps to make sure that he is physically getting what he needs from nurses and other hospital staff. My aunts (his sisters) were here yesterday afternoon and were able to get him up and walking around. He walked all around the nurses station (the furthest he has walked so far) and we are all very proud of his progress.
Please be praying for him while he is in Surgery tomorrow morning and recovering all of next week. He is scheduled for his first round of Chemo in 2-3 weeks and we need to pray that there will be no more unexpected complications that will cause further pain or delay in getting to the Chemo.
