What a Game!

What a Party!

Last night we had 38 friends and neighbors come through the doors for the Super Bowl party.

To be honest most of the neighbors really didn't care about the game at all (including me.) We came together to share food, friendship and good times.

At halftime Heath told everyone that our family strives to first Love God and second Love Our Neighbors as Ourselves. We also feel that this way of living seems to be the consensus on this street and we would love to do more parties, more baptisms, more bbq's, more block parties, more life together.

BUT let's not forget this was a football party. So we had my sister Angie, bring a questioning poll of things that may or may not happen during the game. There were questions like: Will the coin flip be heads or tails, or What will be the first animal in a commercial, or What number will the first player to score a TD be wearing? (Over or Under #40). There were questions about the game, the players, the commercials, the halftime show, the score, the Gatorade and the post game show. We also had everyone write a prediction of the score at Halftime and a prediction of the final score. We had prizes for the closest predictions and for the top two winners of the questions. The prizes included an Elvis frog (for someone's doorstep,) a gnome resting on a mushroom, a camouflage snuggie, and a large can of Beef stew with a coffee mug. We also had a prize for the person that answered the least amount of questions correctly. The prize was a mock, clip on camisole. (Hee hee he)

Every time we get together we get to know each other a little more. This time was no exception. One of our neighbors that moved to the street around the same time frame that we did, told me last night that their house has more problems than they anticipated, but they can't consider moving because they love this neighborhood so much. I have to agree with loving this neighborhood. Our house is by no means our dream home, but this neighborhood is everything we could ever ask for in neighbors. I love living in a place where there are no Inhibitions, when we wave we smile, and we take the time to get to know each other. We are all still striving to know each other's names, I'll admit we have written cheat sheets to keep everyone straight, but that is part of the fun of getting to know each other.

So while we are hibernating during the winter and may not see each other until the snow melts, we are all aware that there is life beyond our front doors. Our gracious host made this comment last night... " That's awesome. Thanks for everyone coming over and making it happen. What a great crazy bunch of neighbors. Bring on March for Burton St BBQ 2011. "
